Well, what a difference a week can make in Ballandean. Last week, we mentioned how gorgeous the vineyards were looking with good rains and lovely hot days. Today we report on the devastating Christmas Eve hail storm that has ravaged our vineyard on Sundown Rd and a number of our neighbours as well.
The storm hit late in the afternoon and has left a trail of destruction throughout the Ballandean and Glen Aplin area with reports of up to 80% losses on some of the vineyards.
Here at BE, we have had major crop loss but on a brighter note our second vineyard, Bellevue, was less affected and we are still hopeful of a reasonable crop for 2015.
This is just one of the challenges we face as farmers in the Granite Belt and while it is devastating at the moment, we have survived this type of difficulty before and we will all be fine!!
Thanks for all of the thoughts and messages, and rest assured, this only makes us more determined to make the best possible wines in 2015 so here's Cheers to that!!
